Calling
qara (קָרָא) / klēsis (κλῆσις)
Calling is God's spoken assignment of a person to a place, a people, and a purpose — always accompanied by His presence.

Genesis 12:1.'The LORD had said to Abram, Go from your country … to the land I will show you.' The Bible's foundational calling.
Biblical meaning
Calling in Scripture begins with God's voice, not our ambition. He calls Abraham out of Ur, Moses out of Midian, Samuel from his sleep, David from the sheep, Isaiah in the temple, Mary from Nazareth, fishermen from a lakeshore, and Paul from a horse on the road. A biblical calling is less a career and more an assignment — a place, a people, and a purpose you did not invent. It is always accompanied by His presence; the same voice that calls also promises 'I will be with you.'

Every believer has a calling: to belong to Christ (Rom 1:6) and to serve where He has planted them (1 Cor 7:17).

What Scripture says
Sometimes God speaks in fire; often He speaks in whispers, verses, wise counsel, and slow doors. All are equally His voice.
Living the text
Do not confuse ambition with calling. Ask: what has God put in front of me — this person, this work, this season? Faithfulness here often becomes the doorway there. Say what Samuel said: 'Speak, for your servant is listening.' Then obey the small next step.
Prayer
Lord, You still call by name. Quiet the noise until I can hear Your voice, and give me courage to answer 'Here I am' — even when I do not know where the path leads. Amen.
