Deliverance
yasha (יָשַׁע) / rhuomai (ῥύομαι)
Deliverance is God's decisive rescue of His people from what enslaves, threatens, or accuses them — sometimes sudden, sometimes slow, always given.
Scripture first

First appearance in the Bible
Genesis 14:20.Melchizedek blesses God, 'who has delivered your enemies into your hand,' after Abram rescues Lot. Deliverance enters the Bible as God's gift to be praised, not our achievement.
Biblical meaning
Deliverance is God's rescue when there is no other way out. The Red Sea opens. The lions' mouths close. The stone rolls away. Deliverance can come suddenly, like Israel at the sea, or slowly, over years, like Joseph in prison. The Hebrew root yasha is the same root that gives us the name Yeshua — Jesus, 'the LORD saves.' Deliverance is never earned. It is always given by the God who hears.

God raises deliverer after deliverer for His people (Judg 2:16).

Common misunderstandings
Claim
“Deliverance always looks the way I asked.”
What Scripture says
Sometimes God parts the sea; sometimes He walks with us through the fire. Both are deliverance (Ex 14; Dan 3).
Claim
“If I am still in the trouble, God has not answered.”
What Scripture says
Joseph waited years in prison before his deliverance became visible. God's silence is not the same as God's absence.
Living the text
Name what you need delivered from. Bring it to God specifically — not as vague worry but as an honest cry. Then watch for the small hands of rescue: a friend's call, an open door, a sudden peace. Deliverance rarely arrives labelled; it usually arrives disguised as a next step.
Prayer
Deliverer God, You are still the God who parts seas and shuts lions' mouths. I cannot rescue myself from this. Come. Stand firm around me until I can see You have already been standing here. Amen.
