Redemption
ga'al (גָּאַל) / apolutrōsis (ἀπολύτρωσις)
Redemption is God buying back what was lost — a slave freed, an inheritance restored, a people ransomed by the blood of Christ.

First appearance in the Bible
Exodus 6:6.God tells Moses, 'I will redeem you with an outstretched arm.' The word first stands over Israel's rescue from Egypt.
Biblical meaning
Redemption comes from the marketplace and the family courtroom: a slave set free, a widow given a future, an inheritance restored to its rightful heir. God redeems Israel out of Egypt by outstretched arm and Passover blood. Boaz redeems Ruth and Naomi's land and line. And in Christ, the price God paid for us was not silver or a field but His own Son. Redemption is never cheap and never earned — always paid, always by love.

Exodus
God redeems Israel from slavery by the Passover lamb (Ex 6; 12).
Ruth
Boaz becomes kinsman-redeemer for Ruth and Naomi (Ruth 4).
Psalms / Prophets
'I know that my redeemer lives' (Job 19:25); Isaiah names God as Redeemer of the exiles (Isa 43:1).
Gospels
Jesus comes 'to give his life as a ransom for many' (Mark 10:45).
Epistles
'You were redeemed … with the precious blood of Christ' (1 Peter 1:18-19).
Revelation
The redeemed sing a new song: 'with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe' (Rev 5:9).

The whole point is that a price was paid you could not pay. You are asked to receive, not repay.

It reaches your body, your relationships, your future, and finally 'the redemption of our bodies' at resurrection (Rom 8:23).
Living the text
Stop trying to buy back what only Christ can. If a chapter of your life feels beyond repair — a wasted decade, a lost relationship, a broken body — bring it to the Redeemer, not the accuser. He specialises in restoring what was sold, wasted, or stolen.
Prayer
Redeemer God, You paid for me when I had nothing to offer. Take back the parts of my story I have written off. Restore what was lost, and teach me to live like someone truly bought. Amen.
